The Relic poster 01

Movie / 1997 / Horror / Thriller

The Relic

Why this pick

Like Mimic, it turns scientific investigation into a claustrophobic creature feature, with a smart professional heroine, escalating urban dread, and practical-monster intensity.

Deep Rising poster 02

Movie / 1998 / Action / Adventure / Horror / Science Fiction

Deep Rising

Why this pick

Its isolated, decaying setting and relentless nonhuman threat deliver the same late-1990s creature-feature momentum, balancing grisly suspense with pulpy entertainment.

The Host poster 03

Movie / 2006 / Drama / Horror / Science Fiction

The Host

Why this pick

This river-monster nightmare shares Mimic's contaminated-city anxiety and grotesque creature design, while grounding the danger in a tense, emotionally immediate family response.

Splinter poster 04

Movie / 2008 / Horror / Thriller

Splinter

Why this pick

A stripped-down, practical-effects body-horror thriller that echoes Mimic's biological menace, mounting panic, and sense that survival depends on observing an unfamiliar organism.

The Bay poster 05

Movie / 2012 / Horror / Science Fiction / Thriller

The Bay

Why this pick

It expands Mimic's outbreak-and-parasite premise into an unnervingly plausible ecological horror, using an investigative structure to steadily tighten the sense of civic collapse.

01 / THE STORY

A little about the film.

In Manhattan, cockroaches are spreading the deadly "Strickler's disease" that is claiming hundreds of the city's children. Dr. Peter Mann, Deputy Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, recruits entomology Dr. Susan Tyler, who uses genetic engineering to create what she calls the Judas breed, a large insect that releases an enzyme which accelerates the roaches' metabolism and causes them to starve to death faster than they can take in nourishment. The disease is successfully eradicated, and Peter and Susan later marry.
