Why this pick
A stark, intellectually charged vampire film that shares The Hunger’s urban decadence, erotic danger and existential preoccupation with bloodlust, but trades Tony Scott’s gloss for monochrome nocturnal severity.
Why this pick
Claire Denis brings similarly sensual, unsettling eroticism to vampiric desire, with an elusive, dreamlike atmosphere and a cool European visual style rather than conventional horror momentum.
Why this pick
For the immortal lovers, nocturnal music and cultivated melancholy at The Hunger’s core, this offers a gentler but equally stylish portrait of vampirism as beautiful, weary intimacy.
Why this pick
Its aristocratic vampire seduction, languid pacing and jewel-toned hotel interiors closely suit The Hunger’s luxurious, erotic Gothic mood and fascination with predatory elegance.
Why this pick
Not a vampire story, but its synth-soaked nightlife, immaculate fashion imagery and icy, sensual menace echo the seductive audiovisual rush that makes The Hunger distinctive.

01 / THE STORY
Miriam Blaylock is a vampire, promising specially chosen humans Immortality as her vampire lovers. As the film begins, her companion is John, a talented cellist whom she married in 18th century France. In a night club in New York, they connect with a young couple who they bring home and feed upon by slashing their throats with a bladed Ankh pendant. The bodies are disposed of by an incinerator in the basement of John and Miriam's elegant New York townhouse, where they pose as a wealthy couple who teach classical music.
