Why this pick
Like Sea of Love, it turns police work into an intimate psychological duel, driven by sexual tension, moral rot, and a wary investigator pulled toward someone dangerous.
Why this pick
Its humid neo-noir mood, adult desire, and steadily tightening sense of danger closely match Sea of Love’s blend of erotic attraction and criminal suspicion.
Why this pick
A sleek, sharply cynical neo-noir in which attraction is inseparable from manipulation; ideal for Sea of Love’s grown-up, combustible game of trust.
Why this pick
This polished adult thriller sustains the same unnerving question at Sea of Love’s core: can desire coexist with the suspicion that someone close may be lethal?
Why this pick
For its late-1980s urban noir texture and damaged-cop perspective, with moody night imagery and a hard-edged investigation that keeps personal stakes close.

01 / THE STORY
New York City homicide detective Frank Keller is a burned-out alcoholic. His wife left him and married one of his colleagues, and he is depressed about reaching his 20th year on the police force. He is assigned to investigate the murder of a man in Manhattan, shot dead while face down in his bed, naked, listening to an old 45rpm recording of "Sea of Love (song)." Keller has three clues — a lipstick-smeared cigarette, a want-ad that the dead man placed in a newspaper, and fingerprints of the perpetrator.
