Why this pick
Like Hellraiser, it turns a Clive Barker premise into elegant, adult supernatural horror, balancing erotic menace, ritualistic mythology and a memorably uncanny otherworldly figure.
Why this pick
Its collapsing relationship becomes an intense, feverish passage into body horror and metaphysical terror, with the same willingness to make desire feel frighteningly physical.
Why this pick
A polished suburban nightmare that steadily exposes grotesque flesh-and-class anxieties; its audacious practical body effects share Hellraiser’s tactile, transgressive charge.
Why this pick
Ken Russell brings surreal sexual imagery, pagan menace and lurid gothic excess to a horror vision that feels mischievously adjacent to Hellraiser’s taboo-breaking sensibility.
Why this pick
Clive Barker again combines elaborate creature design, dark fantasy mythology and sympathy for outsiders, expanding the kind of sensual, baroque nightmare world suggested by Hellraiser.

01 / THE STORY
When journeyman Frank purchases a mysterious Chinese puzzle box while visiting an exotic country he returns home to England and unwittingly unlocks a door to hell, dragged into a frightening dimension whose evil inhabitants, known as Cenobites, test his appetite for pleasure and tolerance for pain – literally tearing him apart in the process. Escaping his sado-masochistic hell, Frank returns to his old household and begins an insidious resurrection that will not only draw the life and soul of everyone around him but open a portal for Pinhead and his infernal Cenobites to wreak bloody havoc on an unsuspecting world.
