Why this pick
Like Chopping Mall, it turns an after-hours commercial space into an enclosed 1980s slasher playground, mixing young-adult partying, stalk-and-chase tension, and cheerfully pulpy kills.
Why this pick
Its same-year blend of cheap-but-vivid sci-fi horror, outrageous creature effects, and knowingly cartoonish suburban energy closely matches Chopping Mall’s gleeful B-movie spirit.
Why this pick
For Chopping Mall’s neon 1980s Los Angeles vibe and resourceful young survivors: this is another brisk, funny apocalypse-horror romp with shopping-mall imagery and an infectiously light touch.
Why this pick
A compact, playful slasher centered on a teen gathering, with a similarly unpretentious pace, bright 1980s texture, and a fun balance of suspense and exploitation-movie excess.
Why this pick
Another 1986 techno-horror oddity, pairing killer-machine anxieties with heightened suburban melodrama and colorful practical-effects mayhem rather than solemn scares.

01 / THE STORY
Park Plaza Mall has just installed a state-of-the-art security system, including shutters across all exits and three high-tech robots programmed to disable and apprehend thieves using tasers and tranquilizer guns. Four couples: Rick and Linda, Greg and Suzie, Mike and Leslie, Ferdy and Allison, decide to have a party in one of the furniture stores where three of them work. After hours, all of them (except Allison and Ferdy) begin to have sex, drink, and party inside the furniture store.
