Why this pick
Another Ron Shelton sports comedy driven by a gifted, reckless underdog, lively rivalry, affectionate teasing, and romantic stakes rather than polished heroics.
Why this pick
Its basketball scenes value street-level skill, confidence, and the grind behind a long-shot wager, with a warm mentor-player partnership at the center.
Why this pick
For the blend of basketball and relationship tension, this follows two fiercely competitive players whose connection evolves alongside their ambitions, with a grounded neighborhood feel.
Why this pick
A breezy streetball comedy built around pickup-game swagger, underestimated players, team chemistry, and charismatic basketball personalities.

01 / THE STORY
Billy Hoyle (Harrelson) is a former college basketball player who makes his living by hustling streetball who assume he cannot play well because he is white. Billy never degrades his race when joining in on pickup games; he simply allows his opponents, most of whom are black, to falsely believe they have a natural advantage over him due to his race and clothing style. Such a player is Sidney Deane (Snipes), a talented but cocky player who is beaten twice by Billy, once in a half court team game and later in a one-on-one shootout for money.
