Bull Durham
Why this pick
Shelton’s similarly loose, funny sports world runs on bruised egos, easy banter, adult romance, and a charismatic athlete whose talent exceeds his discipline.

Jerry Maguire
Why this pick
Its sports-business setting supports a very human romantic comedy, driven by flawed confidence, professional reinvention, and an earnest emotional payoff rather than the game alone.

Another golf-centered underdog story, built around a gifted outsider confronting elite competition; it shares Tin Cup’s pleasure in pressure, nerve, and a climactic sporting gamble.

01 / THE STORY
A little about the film.
Roy "Tin Cup" McAvoy (Kevin Costner) is a former golf prodigy who has little ambition. He owns a driving range in West Texas, where he drinks and hangs out with his pal Romeo Posar (Cheech Marin) and their friends. Dr. Molly Griswold (Rene Russo), a clinical psychologist, wants a golf lesson. She asks Roy because he knows her boyfriend David Simms (Don Johnson), a top professional golfer. They were both on the golf team at the University of Houston. Roy is immediately attracted to Molly, but she sees through Roy's charm and resists.
