03
Why this pick
Its gentle humour, Indian setting and generous interest in companionship make it a similarly comforting ensemble drama about people rediscovering purpose beyond the roles society assigned them.
04
Why this pick
For another affectionate British period piece, this offers a lighter, lively glimpse of royal constraint meeting the unpredictable outside world, with charm rather than cynicism.
05
Why this pick
A dryly funny, deeply humane portrait of an improbable friendship across class and convention, carried by a magnificent older central performance and an unshowy emotional payoff.
