Why this pick
Like Tunnel, it turns an ordinary crisis into tightly escalating Korean suspense, using a confined situation and increasingly fraught contact with authorities to expose institutional failures.
Why this pick
This disaster thriller shares Tunnel’s anxious rescue-clock momentum, human-scale peril, and attention to the difficult decisions made by people trying to reach those trapped.
Why this pick
It offers a more buoyant variation on Tunnel’s survival tension: an everyday person improvises under pressure while civic systems struggle to contain a large-scale emergency.
Why this pick
Beneath its creature premise, it has Tunnel’s blend of urgent family-centered peril, darkly comic bureaucracy, and anger at public institutions failing vulnerable people.
Why this pick
A stripped-down survival thriller driven by phone calls, it recreates Tunnel’s claustrophobic tension and the emotional stakes of trying to help someone from a frustrating distance.
