The Seventh Victim poster 01

Movie / 1943 / Drama / Horror

The Seventh Victim

Why this pick

Like The Queen of Spades, it turns a shadowy old-world moral trap into elegant psychological horror, with obsessive pursuit, a vulnerable heroine, and dread accumulating through suggestion rather than spectacle.

The Innocents poster 02

Movie / 1961 / Horror

The Innocents

Why this pick

Its exquisite monochrome imagery, period formality and sustained uncertainty echo the icy elegance of The Queen of Spades, while supernatural menace remains inseparable from fixation and repression.

The Leopard Man poster 03

Movie / 1943 / Horror / Thriller

The Leopard Man

Why this pick

Tourneur similarly makes darkness, sound and implication do the frightening work. Its compact fatalism and elegantly sustained nocturnal unease suit the controlled terror of The Queen of Spades.

The White Reindeer poster 04

Movie / 1952 / Drama / Fantasy / Horror

The White Reindeer

Why this pick

This stark Nordic folktale matches the film's doomed supernatural bargain, period otherness and stylised visual power, treating desire and fate with grave, haunting seriousness.

Kwaidan poster 05

Movie / 1964 / Drama / Fantasy / Horror

Kwaidan

Why this pick

Its ghost stories unfold with ceremonial pacing, ravishingly unreal colour and an austere belief in consequences beyond reason—an ideal match for The Queen of Spades' elegant fatalism.
