Why this pick
Another Carl Reiner–Steve Martin collaboration, pairing rapid-fire absurdity with a deadpan, high-concept spoof structure; its noir pastiche keeps the same proudly artificial comic precision.
Why this pick
Its escalating chain of ludicrous inventions, disasters and non sequiturs matches the gleefully broad, gag-dense comic logic of The Man with Two Brains.
Why this pick
A lovingly crafted mad-scientist parody with heightened melodrama, elaborate visual jokes and a sincere comic commitment to every ridiculous turn.
Why this pick
This has a similarly off-kilter 1980s science-fiction sensibility: mundane professionals encounter increasingly bizarre cosmic nonsense, delivered with dry, anarchic humour.
Why this pick
Its mock-serious scientific jargon, eccentric experts and cheerfully overcrowded absurdity echo the film’s delight in treating nonsense as urgent high drama.
