Why this pick
A richly coloured Hammer Gothic in which an innocent traveller is drawn into an isolated European household of aristocratic menace, escalating through romantic peril, occult dread, and forceful vampire-hunting.
Why this pick
Its lavish period setting, stylised blood-soaked imagery, and travelling troupe of seductive predators make it an especially atmospheric companion to Hammer’s fairy-tale European vampire nightmare.
Why this pick
Another elegant Hammer tale of travellers confronting an ancient evil in a misty Central European village, with vivid colour, melodramatic romance, and a steadily mounting sense of cursed isolation.
Why this pick
For the sensuous, adult side of The Kiss of the Vampire: a deliberately paced, visually sumptuous vampire romance that treats its nocturnal aristocrats with old-school Gothic glamour.
Why this pick
This tense, witty vampire investigation trades Bavarian castles for urban shadows, but shares the pleasure of a determined outsider struggling to make others believe an apparently impossible threat.

01 / THE STORY
Gerald (Edward de Souza) and Marianne Harcourt (Jennifer Daniel), are a honeymooning couple in early 20th-century Bavaria who become caught up in a vampire cult led by Dr. Ravna (Noel Willman) and his two children Carl (Barry Warren) and Sabena (Jacquie Wallis). The cult abducts Marianne, and contrives to make it appear that Harcourt was travelling alone and that his wife never existed. Harcourt gets help from hard-drinking savant Professor Zimmer (Clifford Evans (actor)), who lost his daughter to the cult and who finally destroys the vampires through an arcane ritual that releases a swarm of bats from Hell.
