Why this pick
Its austere black-and-white imagery and postwar setting echo the grave, intimate aftermath of The Counterfeiters, following identity and buried wartime guilt with exceptional restraint.
Why this pick
For the film’s interest in performance, forged identity, and ethical corrosion under Nazi power, this harsh black-and-white satire offers escalating tension and an equally unsettling view of institutional cruelty.
