Why this pick
Like Something Wild, it turns an impulsive encounter into an increasingly surreal all-night odyssey, balancing screwball embarrassment, urban danger, and a protagonist far outside his normal life.
Why this pick
A bored, buttoned-up man is swept into nocturnal Los Angeles crime by an unpredictable stranger; its breezy romantic momentum gradually acquires the same real edge of peril.
Why this pick
Its downtown style, shifting identities, and liberating stranger-at-the-center dynamic echo the playful, off-kilter freedom of Demme’s film, with a lighter criminal backdrop.
Why this pick
For the seductive danger beneath Something Wild’s flirtation: a sharply controlled neo-noir about a magnetic woman whose spontaneity is never as innocent as it first appears.
Why this pick
This is another volatile lovers-on-the-run story where pop-inflected romance and oddball encounters collide with criminal violence, delivered with restless, colorful energy.

01 / THE STORY
In New York City, Charlie Driggs is a seemingly conventional banker whose wife has left him. In a café, a brunette who calls herself Lulu spots him leaving without paying. After a teasing confrontation, the two leave in a Pontiac GTO that, Lulu says, she acquired from a divorce. They embark on a bizarre adventure, including crashing and abandoning the car, stealing from a liquor store and leaving a diner without paying. Believing Charlie to be married, Lulu discloses that her real name is Audrey, and takes him to visit her mother, Peaches. Audrey now adopts a different persona, becoming a demure blonde. Coming to accept Audrey's free-wheeling lifestyle, Charlie realizes he is falling in love with her.
