Dr. Caligari poster 01

Movie / 1989 / Fantasy / Horror / Science Fiction / Comedy

Dr. Caligari

Why this pick

Its fluorescent, theatrical nightmare-world and aggressively artificial eroticism echo Singapore Sling’s blend of black comedy, psychosexual extremity, and delirious visual design.

Possession poster 02

Movie / 1981 / Drama / Horror

Possession

Why this pick

A feverish relationship breakdown rendered through operatic performances, bodily horror, and escalating unreality—similarly intense, unstable, and darkly funny at the edges.

The Wretches Are Still Singing poster 03

Movie / 1979 / Drama / Adventure / Crime

The Wretches Are Still Singing

Why this pick

Nikolaidis’s earlier nocturnal vision shares the same stylised decay, fatalistic romanticism, fractured noir mood, and fascination with people living outside ordinary reality.

The Duke of Burgundy poster 04

Movie / 2014 / Drama

The Duke of Burgundy

Why this pick

It approaches erotic role-play as a stylised private ritual, with ornate interiors, dry humour, and a hypnotic atmosphere; gentler in tone but comparably obsessive.

The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears poster 05

Movie / 2013 / Thriller / Horror

The Strange Color of Your Body's Tears

Why this pick

A fragmented, sensual maze of noir and giallo references, built from fetishistic surfaces, disorienting repetition, and dream-logic rather than conventional explanation.

01 / THE STORY

A little about the film.

Two mentally ill women who are clearly suffering from not otherwise specified delusional disorders, a mother and a (grown) daughter, live together in a secluded mansion. They are in a relationship and both are recognised for their beauty. They spend their days playing perverse BDSM-related incestuous games in memory of their Sadomasochism patriarch who, when he was still alive, raped his daughter when she was eleven, murdered several servants, and is now a mummified corpse with which the daughter is shown having sex. They occasionally kill their servants and bury their bodies in the garden.
