The Virgin Psychics
Why this pick
Sono channels a similarly unruly adolescent libido, religiously charged romantic idealism, and gleefully excessive tonal shifts, but in a shorter, more openly goofy supernatural coming-of-age form.

SIMILAR PICKS / A PERSONAL CONNECTION
Why this pick
Sono channels a similarly unruly adolescent libido, religiously charged romantic idealism, and gleefully excessive tonal shifts, but in a shorter, more openly goofy supernatural coming-of-age form.
Why this pick
Its ecstatic, anything-goes filmmaking matches Love Exposure’s maximalist energy: sincere devotion and absurd comedy collide as fanatical characters turn chaos into a handmade cinematic spectacle.
Why this pick
This shares the heightened pop-art visuals, wild comic velocity, and unexpectedly heartfelt outsider bond beneath its deliberately excessive style.
Why this pick
For Love Exposure’s assaultive visual inventiveness and morally feverish family dysfunction, this delivers another fractured Japanese descent with stylized editing and emotional extremity.
Why this pick
Its seemingly disparate characters and time periods converge with the same buoyant faith in coincidence, youth, and grand romantic gestures—less abrasive, but comparably exuberant.
