The Taste of Others
Why this pick
Jaoui’s earlier ensemble piece has the same incisive, compassionate feel for social aspiration, artistic pretension, and people misreading one another across class and cultural circles.

Why this pick
Jaoui’s earlier ensemble piece has the same incisive, compassionate feel for social aspiration, artistic pretension, and people misreading one another across class and cultural circles.
Why this pick
Written by Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri, this tightly observed family gathering delivers similarly funny, painful dialogue and a clear-eyed tenderness toward flawed, status-conscious people.
Why this pick
Its awkward provincial encounters and competing self-images extend the dry humor and moral complexity of Look at Me, with affection beneath the social discomfort.
Why this pick
A birthday party becomes a sharp, layered comedy of creative vanity, old resentments, and social performance—very much in the observant Jaoui-Bacri vein.
Why this pick
For Look at Me’s humane interest in dignity and moral blind spots, this warm Marseille drama offers an equally unshowy, socially attentive portrait of ordinary lives.
