Why this pick
Kore-eda again finds immense feeling in small domestic encounters, following an imperfect father trying to reconnect with his family through patient observation rather than melodrama.
Why this pick
Its compassionate, unhurried attention to children and everyday survival carries the same quiet moral weight and intimate family perspective as Like Father, Like Son.
Why this pick
A gentle, sunlit family drama where bonds are rebuilt through ordinary rituals, understated performances, and a deeply humane view of belonging.
Why this pick
It probes what truly makes a family with the same delicate restraint: affectionate daily details gradually gather into emotionally complex questions of care and kinship.
Why this pick
A single family gathering becomes a quietly piercing study of parental expectation, old wounds, and affection left unspoken—precise, tender, and never overstated.

01 / THE STORY
Ryōta Nonomiya is a successful businessman who is focused so much on work that he neglects his wife, Midori, and son, Keita. Upon his return home one day, Midori tells him that the hospital where Keita was born urgently needs to speak to them, and Ryōta senses trouble. After arriving at the hospital, the couple learns that their biological son Ryūsei was switched with Keita at birth, and after DNA tests prove the error, they must now make a life-changing decision to either keep Keita, the boy they raised as their own son, or exchange him for their biological son.
