Why this pick
Rohmer again stages a sunlit holiday as a precise moral game: leisurely conversation, flirtation, self-justification, and small gestures made charged by an observant, elegant camera.
Why this pick
Its seaside setting and seemingly idle vacation rhythm conceal a sharp study of romantic posturing, unreliable talk, and shifting alliances among people who believe they understand desire.
Why this pick
A breezy coastal summer becomes an intricate, gently comic web of attraction and hesitation, with the same pleasure in watching characters rationalize choices they cannot quite control.
Why this pick
For the more vulnerable side of Rohmer’s summer cinema: naturalistic encounters, unhurried observation, and emotional tension that gathers through conversations rather than conventional plot turns.
Why this pick
It shares the finely calibrated amusement of watching a young man turn jealousy into an elaborate personal investigation, while everyday Paris remains light, lucid, and unpredictable.
