Why this pick
Like Rohmer’s film, it finds emotional uncertainty in conversation, chance encounters and seasonal drift, observing a restless protagonist with an unforced, intimate naturalism.
Why this pick
Its coastal summer setting, hesitant romantic choices and alert attention to small shifts in conversation make it a particularly close companion to The Green Ray.
Why this pick
Rohmer again turns holidays, landscapes and sustained talk into delicate emotional tension, with characters continually interpreting their own changing desires.
Why this pick
A warm, sharply observed ensemble piece about people awkwardly reaching beyond their habits; its pleasures lie in behavior, conversation and gradually revised impressions.
Why this pick
It shares the quietly melancholy French summer atmosphere and patient observation of people negotiating change, though through a family ensemble rather than a solitary journey.
