SIMILAR PICKS / A PERSONAL CONNECTION
01
Why this pick
Like Hot Fuzz, it turns a crime investigation into a sharply paced buddy-comedy, pairing mismatched partners with escalating action, dense visual gags, and a mystery that keeps the momentum lively.
02
Why this pick
Its self-aware noir puzzle, rapid-fire banter, and gleefully overengineered action echo Hot Fuzz’s affection for genre mechanics while keeping the character partnership at the center.
03
Why this pick
A desk-bound odd-couple police team gets pulled into a larger case in a comedy that shares Hot Fuzz’s deadpan institutional satire, explosive set pieces, and affectionate cop-film spoofing.
04
Why this pick
A caustic Irish small-town cop comedy with an unlikely law-enforcement pairing, dry local color, and a crime plot that gradually earns its action without losing its mordant humor.
05
Why this pick
For Hot Fuzz’s distinctly British mix of neighborhood texture, precise comic timing, and suddenly forceful genre action, this tightly paced urban siege delivers a similarly playful, affectionate rush.

01 / THE STORY
Constable Nicholas Angel is an over-achieving officer of the London Metropolitan Police Service, whose arrest record is 400% higher than average. His jealous colleagues arrange for him to be "promoted" to work as a Sergeant — in the village of Sandford, Gloucestershire, a crime-free idyll and regular winner of 'Village of the Year' award, that is watched over by the Neighbourhood Watch. Angel is frustrated to find the local police service lazy and complacent. His new partner is PC Danny Butterman, a fan of action film and buddy cop films and son of Inspector Frank Butterman, Angel's new superior. The two work together to unravel a mystery surrounding a string of murders in town.
