Why this pick
Jon Hamm’s Fletch keeps the original’s breezy, wisecracking investigative rhythm: a false accusation, shifting identities, eccentric suspects, and a mystery treated with relaxed, unflappable comic confidence.
Why this pick
Like Fletch, this is a sunlit Los Angeles detective story propelled by a casually clever outsider who keeps wisecracking while the case grows stranger and more morally murky.
Why this pick
A knotty private-eye case gets a similarly offbeat comic treatment, with Bill Pullman’s brilliant but socially peculiar detective and Ben Stiller’s exasperated partner driving the banter.
Why this pick
Its shaggy Los Angeles conspiracy, shambling investigation, and rapid-fire irreverence echo Fletch’s pleasure in watching a smart, improvisational sleuth stumble into bigger trouble.
Why this pick
A self-aware Hollywood mystery with an amused, fast-talking lead, tangled criminal threads, and noir mechanics constantly punctured by dry, playful humor.

01 / THE STORY
''Los Angeles Times'' undercover reporter Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher (who writes as "Jane Doe") is writing an article exposing drug trafficking on the beaches of Los Angeles. While posing as an addict, he is approached by Boyd Aviation executive vice president Alan Stanwyk, who assumes Fletch is a real Substance dependence. Stanwyk claims to have cancer, with only months left to live, and wishes to avoid the suffering. Stanwyk offers $50,000 ($ today) for Fletch to kill him at his mansion in a few days time, stage the scene as a burglary, then flee to Rio de Janeiro.
