Why this pick
Chabrol turns an intimate triangle into a poised, poisonous psychological game, with the same cool control, shifting loyalties, and quietly escalating dread that make Diabolique so unnerving.
Why this pick
A domestic setting becomes a pressure cooker of desire, resentment, and manipulation. Its boldly stylized cruelty and mounting unease echo Diabolique's fascination with private lives curdling into danger.
Why this pick
Its immaculate old house, restrained performances, and deliberate ambiguity create a similarly refined atmosphere of dread, letting small details and unstable perceptions do the frightening work.
Why this pick
Its investigation is driven by patient accumulation rather than action, pairing chilly atmosphere with the gradual exposure of cruelty hidden behind respectable surfaces.
Why this pick
A model of controlled suspense: ordinary settings, lucid storytelling, and a steadily tightening moral chill. It shares Diabolique's confidence that the most disturbing revelations need no embellishment.

01 / THE STORY
A second-rate boarding school in Saint-Cloud, Hauts-de-Seine, Delassalle also has a relationship with Nicole Horner, another teacher at the school. Rather than antagonism, the two women are shown to have a somewhat close relationship, primarily based on their apparent mutual hatred of Michel, who is physically and emotionally abusive to both, as well as unkind to the children.
