Why this pick
Like Detour, it turns a marginal American life into a tightening noir trap, with lean storytelling, doomed romantic momentum, and a restless road-bound fatalism.
Why this pick
Its spare roadside setting and merciless sense of chance echo Detour’s stripped-down tension, following ordinary men caught in an increasingly inescapable nightmare.
Why this pick
This bruising noir shares Detour’s sympathy for a man ground down by money, bad decisions, and pressure, while keeping the drama stark and unsentimental.
Why this pick
A compact, feverish descent into self-deception and catastrophe, with the same cheap-room America, moral claustrophobia, and pitiless noir momentum.
Why this pick
Its unadorned realism and intimate dread closely suit Detour’s vision of an ordinary man crushed by forces he cannot control, without sacrificing noir anxiety.
