01
Why this pick
This poetic Berlin-set angel drama shares City of Angels’ yearning to experience mortal life, contemplative observation of strangers, and spiritual romance; its reflective, image-led approach is even more meditative.
02
Why this pick
A similarly luxurious, unhurried supernatural romance in which an otherworldly visitor discovers the sensual and emotional particulars of human life while falling in love.
03
Why this pick
Another tender angel’s-eye view of Berlin, following celestial beings drawn toward human sensation, frailty, and connection. It retains the spiritual melancholy and intimate urban wonder you may value in City of Angels.
04
Why this pick
Though without angels, it shares a polished, wistful romantic-fantasy tone: an isolated woman shaped by an impossible condition is tempted by love to embrace the risks of a fully lived life.
05
Why this pick
A sincere, visually imaginative afterlife love story that matches the film’s spiritual stakes and belief that devotion can reach across death, with a more emotionally intense and painterly sensibility.

01 / THE STORY
In Los Angeles, California, Seth is one of many angels who watch over humans and protect them in unseen ways. Seth's main responsibility is to appear to those who are near-death experience and psychopomp them to the next life. During this task, Seth and one of his fellow angels, Cassiel, enjoy asking people what their favorite thing in life was. Despite these daily encounters, they have trouble understanding human beings and their ways, as angels lack human senses.
