Why this pick
Another Depression-era fugitive romance, with a more lived-in, melancholy texture; its criminals feel tender, fallible, and increasingly trapped by the world around them.
Why this pick
This doomed lovers-on-the-run noir shares Bonnie and Clyde’s sympathy for outsiders and its collision of romantic escape, criminal desperation, and encroaching fate.
Why this pick
For the volatile partnership and escalating pursuit: a married criminal pair navigate betrayal and brutal pressure with sharper violence and muscular 1970s filmmaking.
Why this pick
A lean, feverish precursor to Bonnie and Clyde, centered on a couple whose attraction and appetite for robbery propel them toward a fatal spiral.

01 / THE STORY
In the middle of the Great Depression, Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker meet when Clyde tries to steal Bonnie's mother's car. Bonnie, who is bored by her job as a waitress, is intrigued by Clyde, and decides to take up with him and become his partner in crime. They pull off some holdups, but their amateur efforts, while exciting, are not very lucrative.
