This is a harsher, more unsettling noir romance, but its isolated lovers, sun-bleached American spaces, and mounting sense of entrapment echo Ray’s interest in desire colliding with social reality.
04
Why this pick
A romantic triangle turns claustrophobic and dangerous in this glossy but emotionally bruised noir, with a woman’s independence and a man’s possessiveness driving the tension rather than procedural plotting.
