Why this pick
It shares Amirpour’s cool, stylized nocturnal otherness: a female monster moving through a seductive urban subculture, with deadpan menace, offbeat romance, and boldly artificial pop-gothic imagery.
Why this pick
Its vampire story is similarly intimate and melancholy rather than conventionally scary, pairing stark visual control with an unlikely bond between lonely young people and a quietly threatening outsider.
Why this pick
For the same black-and-white, genre-mutating cult-film charge, it offers tactile monochrome imagery, deadpan strangeness, sparse menace, and a hallucinatory world that feels both old and defiantly modern.
Why this pick
A languid, music-soaked vampire romance with dry humor and nocturnal cool, it treats immortals as stylish marginal figures and favors mood, chemistry, and city-at-night texture over shocks.
Why this pick
Its tender, sharply stylized monster tale combines class-conscious city life, fairy-tale darkness, and female-centered emotion. Like Amirpour’s film, it makes genre feel romantic, strange, and politically alert.
