This Country

Why this pick

Like Stath Lets Flats, it builds huge comedy from painfully awkward social encounters, deluded ambition and affectionate cringe, with a sharply observed ensemble and a deceptively warm emotional core.

People Just Do Nothing poster 02

People Just Do Nothing

Why this pick

Its mockumentary style finds the same sweet spot of inflated self-belief, workplace incompetence and deadpan humiliation, while keeping its amateur strivers unexpectedly lovable.

The Cockfields poster 03

Series / 2019 / Mini-Series / Comedy

The Cockfields

Why this pick

A compact, exquisitely uncomfortable British comedy driven by miscommunication, peculiar family dynamics and escalating social dread—ideal if Stath’s awkwardness is the main draw.

Mum poster 04

Mum

Why this pick

It shares Stath Lets Flats’ ability to make everyday gatherings hilariously unbearable, pairing precise character comedy with genuine tenderness toward flawed, overbearing people.

The Cleaner (2021)

Why this pick

Greg Davies’s forceful comic persona and confrontational encounters offer a similarly heightened, quotable strain of British character comedy, built around one man’s confidently terrible judgment.

01 / THE STORY

A little about the film.

Stath is an incompetent Greek-Cypriot lettings agent, working for his dad at the family business Michael & Eagle. Stath's hapless sister Sophie dreams of being a professional dancer, but holds a candle for the family's favourite employee, nervous negotiator Al. While Stath struggles not to be outshone by Michael & Eagle's top agent, ruthlessly ambitious Carole, the company struggles against the threat of 'Smethwicks' - the slick, high-end estate agent next door.
