Why this pick
Like Woman in Gold, it pairs an elderly woman’s unresolved past with a determined legalistic search for justice, balancing painful history, dry humour and a warmly human central partnership.
Why this pick
Its intimate, memory-haunted approach to displacement and identity echoes the emotional weight of Woman in Gold, though in a more ambiguous and psychologically tense register.
Why this pick
For the same elegant, accessible prestige-drama feel: a quiet historical story in which art, inheritance and loss gain emotional force through measured performances rather than melodrama.
Why this pick
It similarly makes contested art and the aftermath of Nazi occupation the engine of a polished courtroom-inflected drama, with moral ambiguity rather than action driving the tension.
Why this pick
Its sympathetic, accessible handling of Nazi-era persecution and the lasting meaning of art and remembrance should suit the historical emotion and humane perspective of Woman in Gold.
