Why this pick
A restrained, visually elegant lesbian romance in which a magnetic outsider awakens desire and self-possession within a woman constrained by a conventional marriage and rigid social expectations.
Why this pick
Its sunlit, sensual imagery and quietly daring romance echo Rozema’s interest in desire as liberation, following two women whose connection makes private fears feel newly survivable.
Why this pick
A warm, offbeat romance about a woman negotiating family duty, faith, and a new relationship; its playful specificity offers a gentler counterpart to Camille’s awakening.
Why this pick
It shares the friction between religious authority and queer self-discovery, but approaches it with dry humor, compassionate ensemble dynamics, and an unforced sense of resistance.
Why this pick
A poised, emotionally direct drama of a woman whose engagement is disrupted by an unexpected connection, balancing erotic charge with the painful practical consequences of choosing authenticity.

01 / THE STORY
Camille Baker (Pascale Bussières) is a university literature professor at a religious college in a long-term relationship with fellow professor Martin (Henry Czerny). When her dog runs away and she finds him dead on the street, she ends up crying in the middle of the laundromat where she is approached by Petra (Rachael Crawford), who comforts her. Later on Camille realizes that her laundry was mixed up with Petra's and finds a business card inside the laundry bag. Going to return Petra's clothes she finds that Petra is a circus performer, and when she goes to Petra's trailer to retrieve her clothes Petra tells her that she would like to sleep with her. Confused and uncomfortable, Camille grabs her clothes and leaves. Petra later tracks Camille down and shoots an arrow through her window with a picture of herself and her phone number attached. Camille invites Petra inside and ends up kissing her before running away.
