Why this pick
Craven again makes genre awareness part of the danger: a brisk, playful, genuinely tense slasher where characters know horror rules but cannot safely stay outside the story.
Why this pick
This compact supernatural nightmare shares New Nightmare’s fascination with art that opens a door to real evil, building dread through an obsessive investigation and increasingly blurred boundaries.
Why this pick
Its threatening storybook figure and mother-child emotional core closely fit New Nightmare’s blend of supernatural menace, domestic anxiety, and a parent fighting to protect a vulnerable child.
Why this pick
A sound engineer’s work on a horror film begins to consume his reality. Its deliberately disorienting, film-within-film structure offers a more artful, slow-burn cousin to New Nightmare’s meta-horror.

01 / THE STORY
Heather Langenkamp lives in Los Angeles, California, with her husband Chase and their young son Dylan. She has become popular thanks to her role as Nancy Thompson (A Nightmare on Elm Street) from the A Nightmare on Elm Street (franchise). One night she has a nightmare that her family is attacked by a set of animated Freddy Krueger claws from an upcoming ''Nightmare'' film, where two workers are brutally killed on set. Waking up to an earthquake, she spies a cut on Chase's finger exactly like the one he had received in her dream, but she quickly dismisses the notion that it was caused by the claws.
