Why this pick
Like Tully, it examines motherhood without sentimentality, using intimate observation and mounting psychological unease to make exhaustion, resentment, and selfhood feel sharply immediate.
Why this pick
Reitman’s similarly acerbic, female-centered character study pairs dark humor with compassion, following a messy protagonist whose bravado masks profound dissatisfaction.
Why this pick
A funny, painfully candid adult drama about a couple confronting bodily and emotional limits, with the same unsparing tenderness for domestic strain and difficult compromises.
Why this pick
Its witty yet melancholic portrait of a woman navigating identity, relationships, and adulthood shares Tully’s empathy for imperfect choices and its ability to shift from comedy to raw emotional clarity.
Why this pick
For Tully’s low-key realism and compassion under pressure: an overextended manager endures a cascading bad day, sustained by dry humor and a deeply humane view of care work.
