Why this pick
Gatlif’s earlier Romanian odyssey shares Transylvania’s rough-edged road-movie momentum, music-soaked encounters, and immersive affection for lives lived outside settled borders.
Why this pick
A vivid, largely non-fiction musical journey through Romani communities, driven by the same ecstatic performances, travel, and tactile sense of place that animate Transylvania.
Why this pick
Its unvarnished Romanian setting, youthful defiance, and bittersweet emotional energy make it a grounded companion to Transylvania’s restless outsider spirit.
Why this pick
For Transylvania’s exuberant Balkan music and unpredictable community encounters, this is a more comic but similarly energetic celebration of romance, disorder, and performance.
Why this pick
A darker, more fable-like Balkan journey whose mobile communities, potent music, and emotional volatility echo the charged freedom of Gatlif’s film.
