Why this pick
Like The Wackness, it turns a stalled summer after school into a funny, tender coming-of-age drift, with messy adult guidance, romantic uncertainty, and an affectionate period soundtrack.
Why this pick
A sun-faded 1990s adolescence told with loose, intimate energy: it shares The Wackness's music-soaked nostalgia, troubled home life, and compassionate attention to a boy seeking belonging.
Why this pick
This is another sharply stylised, music-conscious teen story where social anxiety, friendship and risky dealing collide; its buoyant comic momentum offsets the real pressures facing its young lead.
Why this pick
Its inventive visual voice and self-protective teenage narrator echo The Wackness's mix of comedy and vulnerability, while a deepening friendship forces emotional honesty without losing its offbeat edge.
Why this pick
For the loose summer-night hangout feeling and period-specific soundtrack: its ensemble captures teenagers testing identities, flirting, posturing and escaping adult expectations with naturalistic warmth.
