The Gate
Why this pick
A group of kids accidentally opens the door to supernatural trouble, delivering the same 1980s blend of teen camaraderie, occult mischief, practical-creature scares, and escalating Halloween-adjacent chaos.
03
Hocus Pocus
Why this pick
This is another warmly autumnal New England supernatural romp, built around youngsters reviving an old curse and trying to contain a wildly theatrical night of witchy mayhem.
04
Night of the Demons
Why this pick
For a more grown-up, nastier variation, it traps a Halloween party inside a cursed location and balances rowdy teen behavior with escalating possession horror and exuberant 1980s effects.
05
Idle Hands
Why this pick
Its slacker friends confront a supernatural curse over Halloween, with deliberately silly gross-out horror, an easygoing small-town feel, and a similarly irreverent affection for genre clichés.

01 / THE STORY
A little about the film.
It is Halloween in the small town of Pitchford Cove located somewhere in New England, and five high school friends, Phil (Lee Montgomery), Mary (Pfeiffer), Mitch (DeLuise), Vinnie (Burton), and Melissa (Belafonte-Harper), plan on making it a night they will never forget. They steal outfits from the town's historic museum and come upon other old artifacts, including an old trunk encasing a paper scroll which contains an ancient curse. When Melissa, latent sorceress, recites the curse at the local cemetery, things take a turn for the worse.
