Why this pick
A hard-edged American outsider is drawn into Osaka’s criminal underworld, with neon-soaked Japanese cityscapes, escalating pursuit, and a tense collision between business-traveler vulnerability and yakuza menace.
Why this pick
Like The Hunted, it puts a Western protagonist amid Japanese martial codes and organized-crime danger, building toward physical confrontations with a pulpy, culture-clash thriller momentum.
Why this pick
A bruised American returns to Japan and becomes entangled in yakuza obligations; its measured tension, honorable-but-dangerous alliances, and climactic violence suit the same outsider-in-peril appeal.
Why this pick
Its lone warrior faces a ruthless clan of supernatural-feeling assassins in a dark, violent Japanese chase narrative, matching The Hunted’s heightened ninja threat and grim atmosphere.
Why this pick
A yakuza exile enters an unfamiliar criminal landscape, creating the same sense of an isolated man navigating rigid underworld loyalties—though with cooler, more restrained violence.

01 / THE STORY
Paul Racine (Lambert), a computer chip company executive from New York, is on a business trip to Nagoya. He meets Kirina (Chen) in the hotel lounge, and they have a one-night stand. After they part ways, Kirina is approached by Kinjo (Lone) and two henchmen. Kinjo is the leader of the Makato cult, an organization of ninja assassins that was hired to kill her. He boasts that no one has seen his face and lived. Kirina shows no fear of dying, so he grants her final wish to show her his face. Racine returns, looking for his room key, and tries to defend Kirina, but he is late. Kinjo decapitates her as his men stab Racine, hit him with a poisoned shuriken and cut his throat, leaving him for dead.
