Why this pick
A family gathering becomes a pressure cooker of taboo, cruelty and darkly comic discomfort. Its stripped-down style makes the social violence feel as immediate and claustrophobic as The House of Yes.
Why this pick
Another exquisitely stylized portrait of an affluent, emotionally deranged family, balancing deadpan wit with genuine hurt and characters whose elaborate performances conceal old wounds.
Why this pick
Its visit-home setup turns into acidic, intimate comedy-drama, with sibling rivalry, vicious conversational games and a sense that every family member is withholding something destabilizing.
Why this pick
A compact, theatrical chamber piece in which a supposedly celebratory gathering unravels through brittle jokes, shocking disclosures and rapidly shifting alliances.
Why this pick
For the pleasure of watching a family meal become verbal warfare: it has a similarly heightened, actor-driven mix of outrageous cruelty, buried resentments and bleak humor.
