Why this pick
Like Val Guest’s Himalayan ordeal, it turns a remote expedition into steadily tightening survival suspense, with clashing motives and an unforgiving landscape exerting pressure on every decision.
Why this pick
Its isolated snowbound outpost, wary scientific inquiry, and unseen inhuman threat echo the tense, chilly blend of expedition adventure and creature horror in The Abominable Snowman.
Why this pick
A stark northern wilderness and folkloric creature mythology create a similarly austere, uncanny mood, balancing anthropological texture with haunting black-and-white horror imagery.
Why this pick
This Italian cold-war creature feature shares the pleasure of vintage expedition horror: a frozen setting, mysterious nonhuman menace, and a briskly escalating sense of isolation.
Why this pick
Another atmospheric Hammer adventure, it strands ethically compromised characters in hostile, fantastical terrain and lets mystery and dread emerge through the group’s mounting distrust.

01 / THE STORY
Dr. John Rollason (Peter Cushing), his wife, Helen (Maureen Connell), and assistant, Peter Fox (Richard Wattis), are guests of the Lama (Arnold Marlé) of the monastery of Rong-buk while on a botany expedition to the Himalayas. A second expedition, led by Dr. Tom Friend (Forrest Tucker) accompanied by trapper Ed Shelley (Robert Brown (British actor)), photographer Andrew McNee (Michael Brill) and Sherpa people guide Kusang (Wolfe Morris), arrives at the monastery in search of the legendary Yeti or Abominable Snowman. Rollason, despite the objections of his wife and the Lama, decides to join Friend's expedition. Whereas Rollason is motivated by scientific curiosity to learn more about the creature, Friend seeks fame and fortune and wants to capture a live Yeti and present it to the world's press.
