Why this pick
Its sensuous European imagery and inward, enigmatic storytelling echo Swimming Pool’s interest in unstable identity, artistic feeling, and meanings that remain tantalisingly just out of reach.
Why this pick
Ozon again turns authorship and voyeurism into elegant suspense, with a coolly controlled tone and a playful uncertainty over where observation ends and invention begins.
Why this pick
A polished, claustrophobic psychological mystery that uses an affluent home, sexual tension, and carefully rationed information to sustain Swimming Pool’s quietly disorienting pull.
Why this pick
This restrained Ozon drama shares the beguiling calm and emotional ambiguity of Swimming Pool, centring a self-contained woman whose perception of events cannot be taken for granted.
Why this pick
Its lushly realised interior world and intense female bond give it a similarly unsettling blend of sensuality, fantasy, and psychological rupture beneath an initially composed surface.

01 / THE STORY
Sarah Morton, a middle-aged English Mystery fiction author, who has written a successful series of detective novels, is having writer's block that is impeding her next book. Sarah's publisher, John Bosload, offers her his country house near Lacoste, Vaucluse, France for some rest and relaxation. Sarah takes him up on the offer, hinting that she hopes John may come and visit as well. After becoming comfortable with the run of the spacious, sun-filled house, and meeting the groundskeeper Marcel, Sarah's quietude is disrupted by a young woman claiming to be the publisher's daughter, Julie. She shows up late one night explaining that she is taking time off from work herself. She eventually tells Sarah that her mother used to be Bosload's mistress, but that he would not leave his family.
