Support Your Local Gunfighter
Why this pick
Burt Kennedy reunites the same breezy, self-aware frontier comic rhythm: a charming outsider, crooked small-town schemes, and rapid-fire gags instead of Western grit.

Cat Ballou
Why this pick
Its Old West setting is played as an affectionate, eccentric farce, with deadpan comic reversals and a playful refusal to treat outlaw heroics solemnly.
03
The Sheriff of Fractured Jaw
Why this pick
A polished stranger becomes an unlikely lawman in a rambunctious frontier town, delivering the same fish-out-of-water charm and genial Western spoofing.

The Villain
Why this pick
For the cartoonish side of the favourite: this turns Western pursuits, gunfights, and frontier archetypes into broad, fast-moving live-action slapstick.
05
Maverick
Why this pick
A nimble rogue navigates a colourful frontier world through wit, bluffing, and comic reversals; its relaxed charm echoes James Garner's unflappable sheriff.

01 / THE STORY
Bad men... Bad ladies... Bad horses...
A quick-witted drifter wanders into a lawless town in the midst of a gold rush. Shocked by the prices of food and meals he reluctantly takes the job of sheriff by amazing the Mayor with his lightning quick, dead eye pistol accuracy. He makes the town council know that he is really just passing through on his way to Australia and he will pull up and leave anytime he chooses (including at the first sign of real trouble). His first day on the job he takes on the biggest, meanest ranching family and meets his klutzy love interest.
