Its Hollywood satire shares Mamet’s pleasure in slick talk, compromised idealism and an industry where every polished pitch conceals anxiety, vanity and calculation.

04
Why this pick
Another funny, affectionate look at moviemaking, it follows an ensemble caught between creative work and publicity machinery, with awkwardness and deadpan observation rather than broad slapstick.
05
Why this pick
This low-key industry comedy matches the pleasures of State and Main: a screenwriter’s project is reshaped by money, casting and competing agendas, while the humour stays character-led.
