Why this pick
A compact, shadowy crime melodrama in which an investigator becomes emotionally entangled with the case; its fatalism and tightening moral pressure closely echo Lewis’s bleak detective tale.
Why this pick
This low-budget noir turns a detective’s search for a missing woman into a brooding, psychologically charged puzzle, with similarly spare plotting and an air of doomed romantic obsession.
Why this pick
A restrained period thriller where murder grows from private emotional desperation. Its elegant gloom, investigative tension, and sympathy for compromised characters suit the melancholy mood of So Dark the Night.
Why this pick
Its investigator follows a murder trail through layered testimony and shifting identities. The film offers the same old-fashioned mystery pull, European flavor, and darkly romantic noir sensibility.
Why this pick
A quiet academic’s encounter turns into an increasingly claustrophobic nightmare. Its fascination with guilt, perception, and fatal consequences makes it a strong companion to Lewis’s psychological noir.
