Why this pick
Its aging gambler assembling a crew for a Deauville casino robbery closely echoes the Monte Carlo setup, while retaining a cool, nocturnal French Riviera-adjacent criminal mood.
Why this pick
For another international, old-school caper driven by an expert crew, elegant locations, shifting loyalties, and suspense built from the practical details of a difficult theft.
Why this pick
A charismatic mastermind, a specialized team, and a glamorous European setting give this a similarly breezy but carefully coordinated crime-caper energy.
Why this pick
Matches the sophisticated 1960s criminal glamour and cat-and-mouse tension, with a polished visual style and a thief whose confidence is tested by a formidable counterpart.
Why this pick
A more austere, fatalistic take on the expert-heist formula: taciturn professionals, exacting preparation, and sustained suspense rather than comic caper flourishes.

01 / THE STORY
A discredited expatriate United States professor, Theo Wilkins (Edward G. Robinson), has called on a young protégé and sophisticated thief, Paul Mason (Rod Steiger), to come over from the US to the south of France and help him pull off one final heist. He has masterminded a caper to steal $4,000,000 in French francs from the underground vault of the casino of Monte Carlo, Monaco. Wilkins has recruited a team of thieves – including Melanie (Joan Collins), an exotic dancer – but he needs someone he can trust, Mason, to keep them all in line during the crime.
