Shares Red Rocket’s sun-blasted, scrappy American margins, restless comic momentum, and empathy for people improvising through economic precarity without sanding down their contradictions.
Why this pick
Another Sean Baker portrait of motel-strip survival: vivid local texture, unruly humor, and a warm but unsentimental eye on dreams that barely fit their circumstances.
Why this pick
Its unlikely relationship and low-key Los Angeles realism echo Red Rocket’s interest in adult-industry-adjacent lives, awkward intimacy, and characters who are difficult to reduce to a moral label.
Why this pick
Its roaming, tactile Americana and charismatic young hustlers offer Red Rocket’s sense of heat, impulsiveness, and precarious freedom, though with a more lyrical, immersive pace.
Why this pick
For Red Rocket’s abrasive, funny collision with contemporary American weirdness: a drifting protagonist passes through vivid subcultures in a loose, nervy, satirical odyssey.

Mikey Saber, a 39-year old “suitcase pimp”, lives off of women in the adult film industry. Finding himself down and out in Los Angeles, Mikey decides to crawl back to his hometown of Texas City, Texas, where his estranged wife and mother-in-law are living.
