Why this pick
Its punky, fast-moving zombie chaos shares Night of the Creeps’ irreverent genre-mash spirit, quotable black comedy, and affection for turning a late-night horror setup into gleeful mayhem.
Why this pick
A slick, nasty 1980s creature feature with a similar small-town outbreak premise, inventive practical gore, youthful heroes, and the sense that nobody is safely protected by horror-movie rules.
Why this pick
This knowingly gross alien-parasite invasion channels the same blend of body horror, deadpan jokes, B-movie references, and surprisingly sincere small-town ensemble dynamics.
Why this pick
It updates the wisecracking teen-versus-alien threat formula with a lively high-school ensemble, escalating paranoia, creature-feature momentum, and playful awareness of genre conventions.
Why this pick
Its comic-book visual style, practical-effects glee, gallows humor, and unapologetic love for EC-style monster stories fit the affectionate horror-geek energy behind Night of the Creeps.

01 / THE STORY
In 1959, on board a spacecraft, two aliens race to keep an experiment from being released by a third member of the crew. The seemingly possessed third alien shoots the canister into space where it crashes to Earth. Nearby, a college man takes his date to a parking spot when they see a Meteoroid and investigate. It lands in the path of an escaped criminally insane mental patient. As his date is attacked by the axe-wielding maniac, the boy finds the canister, from which a small slug-like thing jumps out and into his mouth.
