Why this pick
Its propulsive London nightmare shares Naked’s hostile cityscape, raw social observation and magnetic central performance, though it channels the rage into crime-thriller momentum.
Why this pick
A punishing, actor-led descent through nocturnal urban degradation, driven by the same willingness to stay close to a volatile, deeply compromised man.
Why this pick
Shares Mike Leigh’s unvarnished British realism, emotionally bruising confrontations and lived-in working-class spaces, while trading Johnny’s monologues for a more intimate family anguish.
Why this pick
Its stark monochrome imagery, Manchester gloom and unsentimental focus on isolation create a similarly austere, intensely British atmosphere, anchored by a restless self-destructive figure.
Why this pick
For Naked’s existential unease and haunting urban alienation, this offers a far more lyrical counterpart: intimate, enigmatic and preoccupied with unseen emotional connections.

01 / THE STORY
After a rough sexual encounter with a married woman in a Manchester alley turns ugly, Johnny Fletcher steals a car and flees for Dalston, a "scrawny, unpretentious area" in the east of London. He seeks refuge with his former girlfriend, fellow Mancunian Louise. Louise is not happy to see her ex. She works as a file clerk and shares a rental house with two flatmates, Sophie, a young party girl, and primary tenant Sandra, a nurse who's away on holiday.
