Why this pick
Like Midnight, it turns romantic deception into featherlight high comedy, with a poised heroine, elegant settings, and a courtship propelled by witty reversals rather than sentimentality.
Why this pick
Its continental polish, glamorous frauds, and urbane romantic triangles closely suit Midnight’s champagne-dry tone and pleasure in characters improvising themselves into high society.
Why this pick
Leisen again makes social fantasy feel airy and luxurious: a suddenly fortunate woman is swept through high-society misunderstandings with the same buoyant, romantic momentum.
Why this pick
For Midnight’s blend of screwball velocity and unexpectedly tender class comedy, this offers a dazzlingly daft journey through moneyed eccentricity and romantic uncertainty.
Why this pick
Parisian glamour, sophisticated banter, and a romance that gently loosens a guarded heroine make this an ideal companion to Midnight’s elegant comic transformation.

01 / THE STORY
American showgirl Eve Peabody (Claudette Colbert) arrives in Paris from Monte Carlo during a rainstorm with nothing but her clothes (an evening gown). With no money and no place to stay, she persuades soft-hearted Hungarian taxicab driver Tibor Czerny (Don Ameche) to drive her to nightclubs looking for a job in exchange for her doubling his fare. After an unsuccessful search, Tibor buys her dinner and offers to let her stay overnight at his apartment while he finishes his night shift. While attracted to Tibor, she slips away.
