Like Love on a Diet, it wraps body-image pain and a search for self-worth in a buoyant, crowd-pleasing romance-comedy, while leaving room for genuine emotional vulnerability.
Why this pick
Another Sammi Cheng vehicle with the same appealing shift from broad comedy to bruised romantic feeling, built around a heroine gradually finding a reason to re-engage with life.
Why this pick
Its scruffy, lovable heroine undergoes an outward transformation, but the charm lies in the warm Hong Kong comic timing and a romance that values her unpolished personality.
Why this pick
Sammi Cheng and Andy Lau bring similarly effortless chemistry to this urban workplace romance, balancing heightened comic situations with an affectionate, emotionally direct payoff.
Why this pick
For the exuberant Hong Kong rom-com energy: Sammi Cheng plays a dreamer whose pursuit of a glamorous escape collides with a sweeter, more sincere emotional reality.
