Why this pick
Its nocturnal Milan drift shares La Dolce Vita’s disillusioned elite and emotional estrangement, but trades carnival energy for cool architecture, silence, and exquisitely controlled sadness.
Why this pick
A witty, wistful tour through Rome’s glamorous after-hours circles, following an observant social insider whose dazzling encounters gradually expose a longing for meaning.
Why this pick
This earlier Fellini has the same affectionate yet sharply observant eye for aimless men, social performance, and the bittersweet pull between pleasure, stagnation, and escape.

01 / THE STORY
Based on the most common interpretation of the storyline, the film can be divided into a prologue, seven major episodes interrupted by an intermezzo, and an epilogue (see also #Seven principal episodes). If the evenings of each episode were joined with the morning of the respective preceding episode together as a day, they would form seven consecutive days, which may not necessarily be the case.
